Yesterday…
Started my day in Nashville’s Baptist Vatican – the beautiful and massive
LifeWay Building - meeting with the King of Consultants,
Ed Stetzer.
Ed wrote
this book, and everyone attempting to do ministry should read it. Really, it’s the best thing in print about doing church and ministry. Take my word for it. Buy it. Read it. You’ll be glad you did.
Every time I meet with Ed, I leave with new ideas. He’s a church genius. And a
Nacho Libre fan. (Probably occasionally wears stretchy pants, just for fun.)
As I said in yesterday’s blog, I equally appreciate Ed’s wisdom and his wisecracks. But I don’t appreciate the - “these are my charismatic friends” - intro at the Life Way building. Being introduced as a Charismatic has a TBN connotation to it, and I don’t think I have enough hair to be on TBN. But, thx, Ed, for the time and input.
Ended my day at
Rice’s home talking to
Dr Luder Whitlock and Don Bush about new ways to train leaders and educate children.
Luder was the president of
Reformed Theological Seminary for 23 years (1975-1998). He now spends his time and considerable brainpower creating new ways to reach and equip leaders all over the world.
Don’s harder to explain. Think Robin Williams sound effects and Jim Carrey facial contortions. Mix that with
Stephen Mansfield’s grasp of history & philosophy and add a little TD Jakes preaching. Oh, yea, need a bit of Mr Rodgers' kid appeal and
Dennis Sy’s humor. That’s Don - passionately entertaining and spiritually enriching.
I ended the day thankful for input from great men like Ed, Luder and Don. Couldn’t imagine trying to do this job without wisdom and guidance from people with a different perspective.
